Tech On! for Blackberry Help
Tech On! interface is divided on 4 major areas(from top left to bottom right):
Tech On! gives the possibility to update the news by two ways: Automatic and Manual (this setting is available on the "Options" screen).
In Automatic mode all feeds are updated each time the Tech On! detects that the interval between the last update and the current date is longer than the period defined in the "Options".
In Manual mode all updates are performed by the user using the "Refresh" button or the menu item "Refresh Feeds", and the feeds to update depend on which is the active screen:
Even on Automatic mode the user can always start an update.
Tech On! only stores news with less than 4 days counting from the actual date of the update.
Tech On! offers you the possibility of connecting to the Web(in order to update Feeds) through four ways:
To change these 2 settings go to "Options" screen and set them to the mode it best suits you.
Setting active Feeds
Tech On! by default comes with 40 feeds enabled. At any time you can enable or disable Feeds.
To do that go to "Options" screen and click the menu item "Configure Feeds".
Then you can use the check boxes to enable/disable Feeds.
When you disable a Feed, all the news from that Feed are deleted and the Feed will not be updated from now on.
Add your own Feeds
You can add your own feeds to Tech On!.
Go to "Options" and click menu item "Add Feed".
Fill the name and the feed's URL.
Click "Save" to finish.
Now your feed is automatically active and TechOn is ready to start getting news from the feed.
Tech On! gives you the possibility of saving your favorite news. The news marked as "Favorite" will never get deleted and will be kept on your Tech On! app.
To save a news item as Favorite just click on the menu item "Add to Favorites" or press the button with the same name while you are on the news item screen.
To view your favorite news click on the menu item "Favorites" or the star button on the toolbar while you are on "Home" or "News" screens.
You can search for news using a specific word or phrase. Press menu item "Search..." or the magnifying glass button on the toolbar. Then type the word or phrase and click "Search".
The "Search" will be made taking in account the present screen. For example, if you execute "Search..." while you are on the "Home" screen the search will be made on all stored news. If you execute search while you are on the "News" screen the search will be filtered to the current feed(s). The status bar indicates you where the search will be made.
The "Buzzwords" feature gathers the most used words present on news titles.
It also enables you to find "Buzzwords" on a single Feed. The status bar indicates you where the search for "Buzzwords" will be made. If you want to get all the news with that Buzzword just click over it.
Tech On! enables you to Post news on your Twitter account.
On the first use you need to authorize Tech On!.
Fill your Twitter username and password, on the Browser screen, and click "Authorize".
This step takes some seconds, so do not close any window or do anything till it comes back to the item screen again.
You only need to perform these steps once, then simply click on the button or menu item in the news item screen to post news on Twitter.
If you receive any error while in the Authorization step, check your Twitter username and password, your connection to the Internet and your browser settings.
If you receive any error after the Authorization step, check your Twitter user status and your connection to the Internet.
If you want you can reset the Twitter information within Tech On! by clicking on the menu item "Reset Twitter Information" on the Options screen. Then try again the Authorization step. If you still receive errors contact Tech On! support.
